Kolkata..

Well I returned to Kolkata on the 22nd of December. The more I think about it the sadder I feel.I have to go back to Toronto in just 4 days.I never realized it but Kolkata is a really vibrant place.Toronto is well perfect, disciplined, organized, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But Kolkata is home.Yes,I cant believe I just said something like that but that's the truth. While walking on the smooth roads there I actually missed the gutted streets of Kolkata, the occassional screaming and shouting, the sheer joy of getting wet in the rain and the very spirit of home.

After 4 days I have another 4 months ahead of me that is unless I have to repeat courses.Oh well, another semester, another quarter of a year.I cant help but feel immensely sad.One of the things I really missed was the food. After having so much bland food in the last few months, even the most dull of Indian recipes seemed like heaven to me.I really wish I could spend some more time at home but it cant be helped.

I have to fill in someone's diary :) and I got the best birthday gift ever this year :D.I'll miss everyone especially someone and I guess I'll see you all in a few months again :):)

Finally an update!!!

Whooaa!!I've been engaged in labs, cds'(dont even get me started on those things),quizes, midterms, appointments and final exams for the last 2 months so I havent been able to update my blog recently.

The last 2,no make it 3.5 months have been the most hectic months of my life till now.I have NEVER been flooded with this much work in my entire life(uptil now).It makes me wonder,if the first semester is this painful then how will the rest of the 5 years be?It's a dreadful thought which I would rather not think about for the next couple of weeks.

Oh well, the winter break is on!!!!!!2 weeks of work and relaxation for me!Yaay! And no that isnt a typo.I definitely need a strong headstart for dynamics and calculus and engineering strategies at least so I can emphasize more on the other 2 courses next semester.

Well, enough discussion about work.Let's talk about the subject of taste buds.I have no intention of ever having thai food again, except under the most compelling of circumstances. Not that it is bad.It is actually quite good but the monotony of having golden fried rice and spring rolls over and over for a week doesnt seem to attractive to me.AAh and yes the food is BLAND,TASTELESS,BEYOND SENSORY PERCEPTION(you can come up with any synonym you like). And whenever they served chicken in the hostel, they generally served either boneless(aaaaaaaargh) or large bony pieces which(following the culture)we must eat using a fork and knife. Now personally,it took me about 20 minutes to cut that infernal piece of roasted meat up using a mere knife and fork and it was downright frustrating! For heaven's sake, just when your tastebuds are iching to savour the large roast in front of you, your knife is lodged in a bone and your fork is banging against the plate!Damn!

All said and done the last few months have been a learning experience in more ways than one.Let me share a few lessons with my few readers:
1.STUDY HARD FROM THE BEGINNING OR YOU WILL DIE.
2.LEARN TO SOLVE PROBLEMS IN GROUPS OR YOU WILL DIE.
3.STAY IN UNIVERSITY FOR MOST OF THE DAY AND DONT WORK IN YOUR ROOM.A LAPTOP CAN BE VERY DISTRACTING.
4.SLEEP PROPERLY.
5.LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST NEVER EVER GET YOUR KNIFE STUCK IN A CHICKEN'S BREAST AND YOUR FORK IN THE BONE(THE SEQUENCE IS CORRECT)YOU MIGHT JUST END UP WITH A FLYING PIECE OF CHICKEN.

See ya guys in a couple of days!:):)

It's about time!!

Well I haven't been able to post anything lately as I was really busy with lots of crap.So I'll summarize the last month into a nice little post.

When I left on the 1st of September,I received around 50 calls from my closest friends, shamik, aditya, baivab, sindhu and my angel :).Yeah and they were all crying and I was consoling them.Ok we were all crying and consoling each other.Lol.My angel cried a lot and I cried too.:( The flight out of Kolkata was weird in a way.I was leaving the place I have lived in for the past 10 years to go to Toronto,on the other side of the world and live there for the coming 5 years. Hmm I can still remember the whistling of the engines as the plane slowly took off into the air and the millions of lights of the city of joy below me.It was spectacular.Kolkata looked like an intricate array of lights and nothing else. The flight was long and very tiring. The food was as usual bad.LOL.The stop at Frankfurt was not helpful in any way.Me and my mom were still dead tired and by the time we took the flight to Toronto we were half asleep.

The last month here has been a whirlwind of events.Really?Hell no.Classes started on the 10th of September and these guys have been pushing us like hell!! We've already had 3 CIV100 assignments,4 APS105 lab assignments,1 APS105 quiz,1 APS111 email assignment,an upcoming APS111 CDS draft assignment and calculus and linear algebra midterms!!!WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG HERE?!!DONT PEOPLE TAKE A BREAK?!! :(( Aah I missed the pujas back home and I guess I am homesick.I miss my dad and my mom is going home today. So I will miss her too.And I miss my stupid friends and my old school. Gosh,Ma'am Elias' chemistry problems seemed easier from where I am standing.:( And I miss my angel.Yeah I talk to her every single day but I miss her :(.But she is my strength and my support. :) Thanks to everyone.:)I'll be back home in winter.:)

The Stranded Star

A few days ago Shah Rukh Khan was detained at an U.S Airport for around 2 hours. Now,because of this supposedly blatant act of disrespect India's public at large has displayed a large amount of scorn towards the American administration. In a country like India where cricket is religion and people worship actors like Rajneekanth,Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, an act of detaining Mr.Khan is as good as an act of heresy.

My point? Do we not have more impending issues or are we just plain bored?Fine, Mr.Khan is a well known personality. Fine, maybe detaining him for 2 hours was overdoing it a little but really who the hell cares?!!!If there is a procedure then why make an exception just because it is Shah Rukh Khan. When you go abroad you have to follow the rules there no matter who you are. Personally, I am not a Shah Rukh Khan fan let alone a fanatic. I like a few of his films and I dislike a few. I have not even watched all of them. Basically, the way the issue was thrown vastly out of proportion, making news headlines and flashing all over the television was very irritating. It was as if people have completely forgotten about the misery of those in places like Georgia or the plight of those in Sudan. More down to earth,it's like people have forgotten about the recession and the flu all of a sudden!

Pryianka Chopra's comment that Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest star in the world is not a hyperbole. It's ridiculous!!He is not that famous and even if he is that does not give him the ticket to flout any rules. Even Mr.Khan did not complain a great deal about the whole thing.Well, we've heard of shooting stars but this is the first time we've ever heard of a stranded one.

If I Were Rain

The book "I Am Rain" contains the photographs and summaries of the stories of disadvantaged urban Indian children.I was going through this book during the library period at Future Hope school.

Munnalal is a 14 year old boy from Bihar who ran away from home and is presently at a shelter. He is finally receiving an education of sorts and dreams of becoming a bus driver.

Shekhar is a 15 year old boy who shares a similar story.Dinesh is a boy who watches helplessly, hands tucked in his patched little pockets as bulldozers reduce his slum home to rubble.

Rajesh is a 14 year old who has never known love.He has written a poem and that little book in which he says he'd be fortunate if he ever found true love in his life.

This is the state of Indian children. No,this is the state of our children. And here all the politicians are desperately trying to increase their "vote banks".Obama preaches the policy of change in his country but who is there to invoke metamorphosis in ours?Love stems from the heart.God exists in the soul.Humanity isn't a word,it's a way of life.None of us can actually do something concrete for these children but at least we can try to bring their plight to the forefront,to question these saintly leaders,to compel them to change our lives for the better. We hold the power but we're too indolent to utilize it.Let's change things this election.Let's try at least.

Capricorn(A Brand New Name)

Hmm this post is by all means a waste of time.It has no advice. It has no philosophy. It has no review. It has no story. In fact it's just an elaboration of a feeling.

I'm feeling very melancholic at the moment.I dont know why exactly. But I want to run away from everything, every single thing and never turn back.I want to run away to a place no one knows me and start over with a brand new name and a brand new identity.I dont want my friends.I dont want my memories.I dont want any of this.I just want sanctuary.

New Year,Old Problems

Well it's a new year and people all over the world were busy bursting crackers, singing songs, kissing each other(as in New York)and basically basking in the festivities that accompany the initiation of a new "beginning".But you know what? It's just a big,fat LIE.

It doesnt matter that a new year has started. Our problems are still the same.People are dying of cholera in Zimbabwe.Kenya still has the most ill equipped hospitals in the world. Ghana is still languisihing in the wake of it's elections.Israel is still bombing Gaza and being attacked by Hamas.400 people have died there already.

And let's come back to our own backyard. Yesterday.woohhoo new year's day what do we see?We see 3 blasts in Guwahati,India. And I certainly dont mean firecrackers.

Forget all the politics, the sorrow of the world, and this sickening philosophy.WE(CLASS XII STUDENTS) all over the country have BOARD EXAMS IN 2 MONTHS!!So what's changed?Well the only thing which has changed is the fact that the count down to the exams is decreasing every day.Except that the world is still as it was yesterday-ignorant,foolish,racist,communal,selfish,parochial and above all inhuman.

Let's not celebrate the new year for a change.Let's just think of ways of making this year better than the last.
